Winner of Art Competition Announced
Local Youth Artist drives away with The BUS Design Competition!
Central Coast, NSW, 21/04/2016
With a view to delivering information, advocacy, referral, creative workshops, development training and entertainment direct to the doorstep of Central Coast’s Youth Communities – it was obvious this ugly duckling needed a makeover.
So RYSS put a call out to artists across the country to create an outstanding, individual design; one that reflects the diversity of our region, the energy of our youth and the debt we owe to our lands’ forebears.
Of all the submissions, one design in particular proved to be the front runner with our Youth Focus Groups.
With an overwhelming 62% of the vote, we can now proudly introduce the winning artist, 15 year old Fionn Molloy, and unveil his stunning artwork.
Given the fact that the vast majority of submissions were from adults and the artists’ ages and identities kept confidential from each voting forum, RYSS is thrilled to see the $500 prize go to an inspiring, local, young artist.
For the next few weeks, RYSS will be introducing the Kincumber High School student’s design and holding a series of youth & community consultations identifying what resources young people would like to see on board The BUS, what activities or workshops would engage them best, what issues impact their lives most and what regions require targeted attention.
Whether it’s turntable tuition, indigenous art, living skills, drug/alcohol awareness, youth parenting classes, sculpture sessions, IT access, gaming comps or bean bag cinema, this innovative and exciting mobile outreach youth centre will, together with our community partners, target isolated and under‐resourced areas, connecting families, children and young people to the help and opportunities often taken for granted in our central hubs.
Proudly wrapped in Fionn’s winning design, the BUS will;
Address local needs on a local level.
Develop and nurture community partnerships to better serve our region.
Deliver opportunity and inspiration direct to the doorstep of the community.
Encourage connectivity to all Central Coast youth.
