BIFF! Kapow! Boof! Batman and Robin will be there. So will Superman, Spiderman, The Phantom and Captain America, while it’s rumoured that the Hulk may hook up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Darth Vader. Any character worth their weight were at the Central Coast’s first Comic Convention.

 

“They say Gosford can be dead but if they have an event in Sydney which involves fantasy, comic book characters or movie characters, then Gosford station is full of people dressed in costume ready to travel there,’’ Mrs Neist said, “Com Con is a great way of letting people know what is available on the Coast to cater for pop culture and a great way to help the community.’’

 

Coast-based Sons of Obiwan Sabre Academy gave a live demonstration of their theatre combat!

 

East Gosford Rotary president and Com Con convenor Diane Bull, a lifelong comic book fan, said the Neists were among many exhibitors at the event which raises awareness and funds for youth mental health on the Central Coast.Dr Bull is a psychologist at Newcastle University’s Ourimbah Campus and said youth mental health was a big issue on the Coast.

“We’ve been working on this event for 18 months and the Central Coast has many young people with mental health issues. “The Com Con will help the likes of Rumbulara Youth Refuge, Coast Shelter and schools. It will help young people get access to health services.’’
